History
As part of organizing the first season of Concerts at Jewett (originally called 3rd Fridays at Jewett), UMA Senior College (UMASC) coordinated concert dates with other organizations to avoid conflicts. At that time the principal providers of frequent concerts were Lithgow Library and Jazz Coffee House. Others contributed information. All contributors wished to share the data on an ongoing basis. Thus a monthly calendar was born, which posts the next 22 events (approximately), spanning about 3 months.
Later a group attempted to create a Kennebec Arts Council (KAC). One of their first agenda items was to have a fine arts calendar.
Concerts at Jewett
- offered its calendar until KAC could take it over,
- expanded coverage from musical events to all cultural events, and
- accepted the name Kennebec Arts Cultural Events (KACE) Calendar.
In the meantime, UMASC continues to produce the calendar.
